Chief Executive Officer
After working in Nigeria and seeing the potential impact that convenient and nutritious foods could have on Zambia’s burgeoning young and fairly urban population, Monica returned to Zambia in 2012 to establish Java Foods. Monica manages the day to day operations of the business and is also responsible for the strategy and capital raising.
By way of background, Monica is a dual qualified English solicitor and Zambian advocate with over 16 years post qualification experience. She begun her legal career working for the Attorney General of Zambia. She then went on to work in private practice for Clifford Chance (London) and Edward Nathan (Johannesburg – where she rose to the rank of partner). She then worked for International Finance Corporation (Washington DC) and for Dangote Group (Lagos) as Director Legal and Corporate Affairs and was later promoted to General Counsel.Monica was the project lead responsible for the Group’s $400m investment into Zambia to build the country’s largest integrated cement plant, due to be completed early 2015. Her experience working with one of Africa’s most successful entrepreneurs gave her the impetus to start her own business and in 2012, she moved back to Zambia and set up Java Foods.
Monica currently serves as non-executive director on the Boards of Zambia Sugar Plc, African Life Assurance (subsidiary of Sanlam), Dangote Industries Zambia Limited and sits on the Microsoft4Afrika Advisory Council. She is the immediate past chairperson of Kwacha Pension Trust Fund, Zambia’s largest single employer pension fund. She has also sat on the board of Bank of Zambia (2011-2014). She is a 2013 Young Global Leader (World Economic Forum) and Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow. Forbes Magazine and Africa Investor named her as one of the leading Young Power Women in Business in Africa in 2013 and 2014 respectively. She sincerely believes that in order to develop our continent, we all must participate and build capacity and so in her spare time, she speaks to the Zambian youth about entrepreneurship and business development.
Kalolo Lwanga Musonda
Mr. Kalolo Lwanga Musonda oversees the company’s logistics, daily operations and administration. Kalolo joined Java Foods as a warehouse manager and accounts manager until he was promoted to operations manager in 2013. Prior to working at Java Foods, Kalolo was a unit manager at Select Service Partner Limited (one of the largest food retailers in the UK).
At SSP as health and safety coordinator he achieved budget targets for 4 years running, achieved the highest customer audit average for three years running and also had the highest brand standards audit average. Under food safety, Kalolo became a trainer and supervised food handling and packaging. He also carried out warehouse inventory analysis through LYNX and SAP programs and led the team migration from LYNX system when the company graduated to SAP.
Kalolo has experience in customer service, client Liaison, health and safety training, account management, hospitality, cash reconciliation, brand standards audits as well as induction training and staff recruitment. Kalolo is conversant in mandarin.
Farayi Martin Muzofa
Mr. Farayi Martin Muzofa is an experienced food manufacturing business manager with extensive international knowledge of commercial agribusiness, particularly with regards to food processing operations, food safety and quality assurance management, new food product development, and logistics management.
Farayi’s extensive experience in this area is useful in supporting Java Foods understand how these elements affect the food business downstream and therefore the planning and management of the business enterprises upstream. Previous positions held include (a) Business Manager/Food Technologist –Agribusiness Incubation Trust, Zambia; (b) Quality Assurance and Product Development Manager – Chat Milling, Zambia; (c) Quality Assurance Manager Digistics/McDonalds, South Africa; (d) Quality Controller – Blue Ribbon Foods, Zimbabwe; and (e) Sales and Accounts Executive – Gauntlet Private Ltd, Zimbabwe.
He has worked in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Spain and Zambia and is currently a member of the European Federation of Food Science & Technology.
Godfrey Nelson Mwendazila
Sales and Marketing Manager
Godfrey oversees all sales and marketing activities of Java Foods. He is a highly experienced marketer with a deep understanding of customer – centric sales, as well as over 12 years of experience in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry. Godfrey’s strengths are in customer engagement & development as well as key accounts management. He is especially strong in modern trade management, negotiations, distributor management, sales strategy development and collecting shopper insights, which fits in well with Java Foods strategy of expanding its sales into the modern trade.
Godfrey has worked with various multi-national and local organisations where he played different roles in building his sales and marketing portfolio. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
Prior to joining Java Foods, Godfrey was the Customer Development Executive at Colgate Palmolive, and before that he was the Modern Trade Executive at Nestle. He has also worked for INVESCO Ltd (Carbonated Drinks) where he performed as Sales Representative, as well as with Mcquinn & Phillips Ltd where he took on the role as Sales Executive.
